John starred as "Doug" in the landmark 1965 Canadian film "Winter Kept Us Warm".  David Secter, the director of the the film and U of T classmate of John, noted "It was the first English Canadian feature to debut at Cannes, and one international critic called it ‘the best North American movie at Cannes,’ preferring Winter to Doctor Zhivago, which also premiered that year.”
